In this work Annie depicts the tracks made during women’s ceremony, as seen from above. It shows how humans are connected to the land. Her paintings also represent the sand dunes of her country – Anmatyerre.
Through layers of fine dotting Annie maps the sifting sandhills (tali) and the scattered seeds of bush food that are vital for sustanance and cultural ceremony. Annie’s work invites close inspection, revealing the depth of knowledge and connection that underpins every mark. Annie Nelson’s painting is a quiet, meditative homage to the desert landscape and the wisdom it holds.
